There were computers before C existed, and there will be computers after C is long gone.

If you really want to know how current computers work at low level, then Assembly is the only way.

Everything else are higher level abstractions.

But, you could probably use C as a stepping stone to Assembly...or just dip in whenever you need clarification on something.
