It does not capture events as they occur. You can't do a 10Tfps recording of a lightning strike with it for example because every lightning is different. It only allows you to synthesize an averaged video of repeatable events.

Did you read TFA? It seems that you are describing prior techniques for ultrafast image capture, whereas this technique is for capturing single, non-repeatable events.

> Using current imaging techniques, measurements taken with ultrashort laser pulses must be repeated many times, which is appropriate for some types of inert samples, but impossible for other more fragile ones. [...] The first time it was used, the ultrafast camera broke new ground by capturing the temporal focusing of a single femtosecond laser pulse in real time (Fig. 2). This process was recorded in 25 frames taken at an interval of 400 femtoseconds and detailed the light pulse's shape, intensity, and angle of inclination.

You would only need to reboot if the kernel got updated. Otherwise just restart the affected services.

And kernel updates can be made faster with kexec so you don't have to reinitialize the hardware. The flashing procedure itself could also be made interruption-free with dual flash, which most sytems have anyway to avoid bricking the system.

It would take some effort to make it fast, but I think the update interruption could be brought down to the second-range. You'd still lose NAT state but that would only affect long-lasting sessions like SSH.

You only need to trust them for the hardware. Then install openwrt.

I think both types of currency are important. Humans have basic needs which need to be met in the shape of atoms and joules which are quite storable. We also have luxury wants which translate better to watts. This separation might also be useful in the context of UBI schemes. And more generally I have a gut feeling, but can't quite substantiate, that many fairness problems stem from using the same currency for both, forcing the lower classes to work multiple jobs just to make basic needs while the haves compete with them just to improve their lifestyle and status.

Fascinating! That makes excellent sense.
